Rancho Calaveras Wants More Taxes??? Spellman Brays Again!!

Calaveras Supervisor for District 5 (Rancho Calaveras) Darren Spellman agendized and attempted
to gain support for creating a large Zone for the newly created Calaveras Consolidated Fire District to assess the taxpayers and get ambulance service for Valley Springs, up through West Point.

Several fire officials attended and spoke, reminding the public of how well it works in Ebbetts Pass, who has not just one, but two assessments that go to the fire department district there.

Since two rivalry fire departments who could not previously get along have only within the last 60 days officially merged, it does seem a bit soon.

And taxpayers we spoke with in that area don't want more assessments added to their property right now. So what was Supervisor Spellman thinking?

Well, we believe that Spellman thinks it might get him a few votes (which he is very likely to need) in his re-election attempt in 2014.

The idea was nixed by the Board of Supervisors and it was suggested that they copy the EMT plan that Copperopolis Fire has put in place, without creating their own zone.

The CalCon, as it is referred to, can assess and serve their own district without permission of the Board of  Supervisors.

After all, Rancho Calaveras is NOT Ebbetts Pass! And besides, many people are not happy with the high assessments on their property in Ebbetts Pass for ambulances that usually sit idle.

So, another "bray" for Supervisor Spellman, who is really just trying to bolster his chances of winning a re-election, so he can sit on his porch (er, office) and watch the constituents work.
