Rim Fire Fact Sheet September 3, 2013-Where did it start??

   September 3, 2013:  The Rim fire at 235,841 acres is the largest wildfire in the United States to date
in 2013.

   Forty-four states and the District of Columbia have sent firefighters or other personnel to the Rim Fire.

   17% of the firefighters are inmates of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

   2.0 million gallons of water have been dropped from the air. 2.3 million gallons of fire retardant have been dropped from the air.

   8.7 percent of the fire is within Yosemite National Park.

   The Rim Fire started near a scenic overlook in Stanislaus National Forest called "Rim of the World" hence the name Rim Fire.

   Containment is at 80% tonight. And there is a lot less smoke in the air.
