Calaveras gets new Probation Officer

   Judge Martin, Judge Swift and the Board of Supervisors are pleased to announce the selection of Sam Leach as the new Chief Probation Officer beginning in April with a full transition by June 2, 2014.

   Sam has extensive experience in the field of probation. He comes to Calaveras from Sutter County, where he has been a Supervising Probation Officer since 2005.

    Originally from Riverside County, he has owned a small consulting business that assists probation departments statewide with the implementation of Evidence Based Practices, as well as departmental responses to AB109/Realignment.

   Sam has provided ongoing trainings and consultations related to case planning, assessments, motivational interviewing and evidence based practices to staff from more than half of the California Counties.

   Sam has a Masters Degree in Public Administration from National University and a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from CSU, San Bernardino.

   A devoted husband and father, Sam plans of permanently relocating to Calaveras County with his wife Rachel and 10 year old daughter Samantha.

  He loves coaching youth sports, traveling, reading and learning new skills. He looks forward to embracing a new community both personally and professionally.
