New home plate collision rule in Major League Baseball

After so many home plate collisions causing injuries, Major League Baseball and the Players Union have voted to change the rule.

The catcher is now not allowed to block the plate unless he already has the ball in his glove. If he does, the runner will be called safe by the umpire.  They are hoping this will prevent many injuries at home plate.
