CalFire Statewide Summary Fire Sunday August 25, 2013

This morning over 8300 firefighters are battling a total of a dozen large wildfires across California.

The Rim Fire at Yosemite National Park, continues to be the most active and has grown to the 15th largest fire in California's recorded history.

4500 homes remain threatened by the blaze and today strong winds out of the south will pose a major challenge as the fire continues to advance to the North, closer to several communities that remain under evacuation advisories.

Winds in the northeast portion of the state will continue to pose a challenge, as afternoon winds of up to 25 MPH with gusts of 37 MPH could fan several of the large fires.

The high country of the Sierra is likely to see gusty winds this afternoon as well.  These winds increase the fire potential and could hamper firefighter's efforts on the current large fires in those areas.

CalFire reminds all residents to make sure they are prepared to evacuate if a wildfire strikes in their community.

Having an evacuation plan and knowing what to take is critical in the ability for early evacuation.
