Cell phone causes head-on traffic accident

According to CHP on November 24, 2013 at around 2:50 PM Sarah Jessop (27) of Pine Grove was driving a 2001 Chevy S-10 eastbound on Hwy 26, west of the Robinson Ranch in Mokelumne Hill at approximately 40 MPH.

  G. Chespourkoff (55) of Valley Springs was driving a 1995 Dodge Dakota  westbound on Hwy 26 west of the Robinson Ranch at approximately 40-45 MPH.

Jessop took her attention away from the roadway for approximately 1 second, according to the report, to look at her cellular phone.

Jessop allowed the Chevy to veer to the left, crossing over the double parallel solid lines, into the westbound lane directly into the path of the Dodge.

Jessop attempted to avoid a collision by steering the Chevy to the right. The front end of the Chevy collided with the front end of the Dodge.

The collision caused both vehicles to become disabled, clocking both lanes of Hwy 26.

Jessop was transported via air ambulance to Doctors Modesto for treatment of major injuries. Chepourkoff was transported by American Legion Ambulance to Mark Twain Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

Alcohol / Drugs are not considered to be a factor in this collision.
