UPDATE: At 3:25 PM CHP announced that all lanes of 99 are back open and the fire extinguished.
UPDATE: At 2 PM the # 2 lane, which had been closed for emergency personnel to reach the fire, reopened.
UPDATE: At 1:45 PM a Sigalert warning was issued to traffic on Hwy 99 due to the fire. Estimated time of clearing is unknown at this time. The right lane is totally blocked.
February 25, 2014: At 12:55 PM it was reported to CHP that a garbage truck in on fire on Hwy 99 at Eight Mile Road.
The fire department in en route to the scene. According to a witness the truck is totally engulfed in flames.

I wonder if the trashtruck was equipped with a diesel particulate filter system? If so, I wonder if we'll hear what the real cause of the fire was.
