According to CHP on February 25, 2017 at 6:20 PM it was reported that Jamaal Prince, Jr (18) of Riverbank, was driving on Hwy 49 near the Calaveras Tuolumne County line at an unknown speed.
Prince allowed his vehicle to drift onto the right shoulder of Hwy 49, turned his vehicle left and lost control. The 2007 Ford he was driving entered the left shoulder of the roadway and impacted a raised asphalt curb.
It continued on the shoulder where it impacted a stone wall before coming to rest on its wheels in the northbound lane of Hwy 49.
Prince was transported to Sonora Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. His passenger David Bernal (17) of Riverbank was air flighted to Modesto Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries.
Hwy 49 was affected for over an hour in both directions before it was finally cleared.
