Dear SierraSentinel: School safety

   Dear SierraSentinel:

I was reading here the other day that someone at the Supervisors said children are all safe in the Hwy 4 corridor of schools as far as street safety is concerned.

I am telling you that is not quite true.  In fact, if you go to the intersection of Hwy 4 and I believe its Meadowmont Way by the big shopping center around 7:15 AM, you will see chaos, dangerous jaywalking and children everywhere.

I think these are high schoolers waiting for the bus to Bret Harte. There are cars parked everywhere; in the lanes, on the side, blocking traffic, all waiting for the bus to arrive.

Also, there are no sidewalks so kids are standing, or I should say, milling around the corner, and it is very dangerous for everyone who has to drive through and for the kids.

I haven't noticed Calaveras District 3 Supervisor address this problem at all!  He's an old man who could care less about kids. In fact, I hear he has trouble following a Board meeting.

So, Valley Springs is not the only place in the county with a hazard to children. Do something about it, Mr. Oliveira. You worry too much about your bridge!!
