UPDATE on murder investigation in Avery

   According to the Calaveras Sheriff's Office they received a 911 call around 1:17 AM that there had been a family altercation and someone had been shot.

  Units from the Sheriff's Office, Angels Camp Police and CHP responded, arriving on scene at a business in the 4000 block of Hwy 4 in Avery to find a 19 year old male deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

  The victim is not being identified at this time until next of kin notifications are completed.

  Investigators are still gathering information and evidence but so far have learned that there was some sort of altercation between family members when the 19 year old was shot.

  The business was closed at the time but subjects reside at this location.  RESIDE AT THIS LOCATION??? A mechanics garage and saloon next door attached???

   A 47 year old man from Avery was immediately detained on scene and transported to the Calaveras County  Jail and booked on a charge of alleged murder - 187(a) PC with $2 million bail.

   The name of the arrestee is also not being released at this time because he is related to the victim and notifications are still being made this morning to other family members, per Calaveras Sheriff.

   The Sheriff's Office is asking if anyone was in the area of Hwy 4 in Avery around 1 AM this morning, September 28, 2017 or heard or saw something pertinent to this investigation, please call the Sheriff's Office at 754-6500 or call the tip line at 754-6030.
