Three vehicle/motorcycle collision on Hwy 4

Per a CHP report, we learned that on October 28, 2017 around 2:25 PM David Michael Barnett (47) of Ripon, was driving a 2002 Ford, pulling a boat trailer
on Hwy 4 west of Hunt Road near Copperopolis.

Victor Anthony Law (61) was driving a 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle with passenger Catherine Law, (57) both of Castro Valley, headed in the opposite direction on Hwy 4.

Christopher C. Caison (56)  was driving a 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle with Debra Babauta Caison (54) both of Castro Valley following Law.

Michael R. Jayne (47) of Mountain House was driving a 2014 Mini, behind the motorcycles.

Karyn Elizabeth McQueen (34) of Mountain House was driving east on Hwy 4 in a 2014 Honda.

According to CHP due to his level of intoxication Barnett allowed his Ford to travel to the left across the solid double yellow line, directly into the path of the motorcyclists, causing them to take evasive action to avoid a collision.

Both motorcycles rolled over, causing their riders and passengers to be ejected.  The Ford continued westbound in the eastbound lane toward the Mini, who saw him approach and hit his brakes. The vehicle behind him in the Honda, tried to stop, but failed and struck the Mini.

The Ford with the boat trailer traveled across the roadway and finally came to a stop on the shoulder, where Barnett was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Barnett was taken to Mark Twain Hospital with moderate injuries.  The Laws and the Caisons were all transported to Memorial Hospital in Modesto with major injuries. Jayne had no injuries. McQueen was transported to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for minor injuries.

This collision is still under investigation.
