Major injuries in Hwy 4 crash

     On October 14, 2018 around 2:15 PM according to a CHP report Jose Arnanabarrajas (48) of Ceres was driving a 2003 Dodge Ram pickup westbound on Hwy 4, west of Batten Road in Vallecito.

   Daniel Marzi (65) of Vallecito was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on Hwy 4 approaching the Dodge.

   Due to his level of alleged intoxication Aranabarrajas allowed his vehicle to travel into the eastbound lane, colliding head-on with Marzi.

    The collision caused the Dodge to overturn once, coming to rest back on its wheels on the south shoulder of the roadway.

   The Chevrolet traveled off the south side of the roadway and came to rest at the bottom o a dirt embankment. 

   Aranabarrajas and Marzi were both taken to Modesto Memorial with major injuries. Amalia Arana (37), Fabiolo Arana (16), Bernice Arana (10)  and Brena Arana (15) were taken to Doctors Medical Center with moderate injuries.

    Aranabarrajas was arrested at the scene for alleged Felony Driving while under the Influence of an Alcoholic Beverage causing injuries and released from custody for medical care. Charges will be filed with the Calaveras County District Attorneys' office.

   No further details are available at this time, per CHP.
