The Sentinel feels that the most important statement in the entire Calaveras County Grand Jury Report is the root of the other problems in their entirety.
And that is, Supervisors in unending decades of elected office, causing corruption,
loss of respect from the public and the employees and gross negligence.
The recommendation of term limits is far too long in coming, as we have been shouting from the rooftops for years. Two terms and out! is what we recommend.
Maybe then we won't have the people they have hired who are not qualified, who they use to fire the competent employees, cause chaos, scandal and of course the inevitable lawsuits.
Will these elected officials listen.? Not likely. After all Tom Tryon has decided that 28 years is not nearly long enough, and Callaway is almost as bad. Get rid of them. They are the problem.
Listen to the Grand Jury, voters! No more lifelong terms like Tryon and Callaway.
We will be covering more of the details and report soon.

Two term limits gives the elected official the ability for a CalPers retirement. Along with term limits a change to their retirement plan. Remove elected officials (supervisors) from CalPers. Provide them with a 401k or payment into their Social Security System account. At the end of two terms, the term limited individuals are on there on regarding retirement. That would be a start for the reduction of Calaveras's pension deficit liability.
