Does Murphys Sanitary District Want More Adhoc Committees?

No more secrets!
As many other Boards with elected officials would like, the Murphys Sanitary Board had a discussion on whether they wanted to make their only Board appointed committee, Personnel, an adhoc committee. All of their other committees are already called adhoc.
Adhoc means that it is not board appointed and whoever shows up, shows up.  Considered by many to be a sleazy, sneaky
way to keep things they don't want the public to know, secret.
Adhoc committees are popular with elected officials because then they don't have to notify the public when they are meeting, avoiding the Brown Act Law.
Adhoc committees are one of the many reasons we have the Brown Act, to make sure there is transparency in organizations that spend the taxpayers money.
The reason given in the discussion, for not changing this one public committee to adhoc is because they are currently under such scrutiny in the Press.
This is one of the reasons they are under such scrutiny; their attitude towards the voters. They have fought against moving in the honorable direction of making their secrets public for many years.
Only since Julio Guerra, their new General Manager, have things begun to turn around and at least look legal.
