Calaveras Sheriff Gets 1 More Deputy

The Pine Tree
Not without a few nasty words between Supervisors Tryon and Tofanelli, the backfilling of a deputy position taken by the Probation Department due to AB 109 law was
approved at yesterdays, July 10, 2012 Calaveras County Board of Supervisors meeting.
After listening to another litany of complaints by Tryon prior to the vote, Chair Tofanelli put Tryon in his place, saying among other things, that he, as Chair, is not required to bring Tryon to every meeting he sets up with Administration.
Tryon had voted against the item at the special board meeting set up last week, but did relent, after exceeding pressure was received from constituents who want more law enforcement.
Supervisor Tofanelli is to be commended for standing up to Tryon, who has been in his position as Supervisor for 28 years.  Both the Grand Jury and the public agree, that is way too long.
Tryon's bid for yet another re-election is being met with unhappy voters, who think its past time for a change, and who also want term limits to help protect them from corruption.

The issue shows the dysfunctional board at it's best. Looking at it from both perspectives, contingency money and funding the position. Both board members should be applauded. Sharing information with other board members and the public (transparency) is mighty important. But it is an election year. Soon we will see if its the best candidate wins or a popularity contest.
