What Does All This Trouble at Murphys Sanitary District Mean for Ratepayers?

During our investigation of the Murphys Sanitary District, some people in Murphys stated,"who cares about all the problems? Our rates are low!"
This is very true, for the time being.
As a matter of fact some of the problems have cost the Disrict 10's of thousands in legal fees.

But the Sentinel is now aware that major improvements need to be made in Murphys at the Treatment Plant. They can't just go on illegally  bypassing and overflowing forever.
That means that the RATEPAYERS are going to have to PAY UP for the improvements.
General Manager Julio Guerra understands what has to be done, and at least has some control over the staff problems. What he can't control is certain Board Members, who need babysitting. Nor can he control the cost of upgrading the system.
So start paying attention Murphys residents. You will be paying MORE just for SEWER fees!

Dear Murphys Ratepayers:

Our rates WILL go up. It's only a matter of how much, how fast and when. The wastewater treatment plant is over it's maximum capacity NOW. Manholes are popping continuously with raw sewage in our streets and businesses. Do you remember Century 21 last year? Having to pay $225,000 to remove sludge that never should have been stored on site is devastating the budget and preventing needed maintenance! Come to the meeting on Monday, July 9 at 6P. Tour the plant at 3P and ask the new GM questions. Help!
