Travel Trailer fishtails, causing accident

CHP reports that on June 20, 2014 around 7:35 AM Debra Parnell (58) of Modesto, was driving a 1998 Mercury in the eastbound lane of Hwy 4 near Bonanza Mine Rd in Angels Camp at approximately 45 MPH exiting a gradual natural curve in the roadway to her right.

George Morris (59) of Angels Camp was driving a 1997 Chevy in the westbound lane of Hwy 4 at approximately 35 MPH, approaching the Mercury.

Parnell, due to unsafe speed, allowed the Mercury's travel trailer to fishtail and drift left of the solid double yellow lines.

Parnell then lost control of the Mercury. Morris observed that the Mercury was out of control and entering the westbound lane.

Morris attempted to avoid a collision by swerving onto the right shoulder, but Parnell's travel trailer travelled across the westbound lane, onto the right shoulder and struck the Chevy.

The Mercury and the travel trailer then overturned onto their left sides, traveled back across the eastbound traffic lane and off the right shoulder.

After the collision the Mercury came to rest on its left side,  facing a westerly direction off the roadway and partially down the embankment.

The travel trailer came to rest on its left side still attached to the Mercury. The Chevy was moved to the right shoulder prior to CHP's arrival.

Parnell was taken to Mark Twain Hospital with minor injuries. Morris refused treatment of his minor injuries.
