Suicide Bill AB 755

Assemblyman Tom Ammiano has introduced a new bill, called the Suicide  Bill AB755, which would requre any California bridges built or rebuilt with state or federal money to plan for suicide barriers to deter jumpers.

Among the 2100 or so other bills introduced this year, this one seeks a remedy for human problems, just like seatbelt, helmet, raw milk or a million others.

While this one is not likely to pass, especially for the $50 million price tag, we do need more mental health services for those who are depressed or troubled enough to consider suicide.

While San Francisco, where Armianno is from, dislikes the reputation and publicity when someone jumps off the Golden Gate Bridge, most suicidal persons will simply find another way.
