Shocking Statement by Calaveras Deputies--Now Read This!!

   Holy deputy sheriffs!!!

We just received a new press release from the Calaveras County Deputy Sheriff's Association titled:

"Deputy Sheriff's Association Responds to Misleading Claims!!"

Misleading?   Sounds more like FALSE claims to us at the Sierra Sentinel!!

"Recently, the Calaveras Deputy Sheriff's Association (DSA) announced our endorsement of Pat Garrahan for County Sheriff.

At the time, we chose not to cite reasons for endorsing Garrahan over the incumbent Sheriff and hoped that our endorsement would speak for itself.

Given recent reports in the media, we are now issuing a statement to correct several misleading claims which have been made about the endorsement and the issues surrounding it.

    THE DSA ENDORSEMENT VOTE

The association represent 91% of the county's sworn personnel in the sheriff's department, everyone from sergeants down, and 94% of our members participated in the endorsement vote.

From past experience, the DSA Board decided it was in the best interest of the entire association to keep the numbers of votes received by each candidate confidential.

We hoped to avoid the kind of dissension that might lead to the singling out of members.

Rather, both candidates were advised that the association voted by an "overwhelming majority" to endorse candidate Pat Garrahan.

The statement reportedly made by the INCUMBENT that the outcome of the vote "was close" is FALSE!!

   NEW PATROL CARS

Our department, primarily as a result of the county's poor financial situation over the last several years, has an extremely aged and unsafe patrol fleet.

While we understand that purchasing new patrol vehicles is only a small part of the increasingly critical needs of the Sheriff's Department, the equipment is degraded to the point that it is a safety issue for deputies.

When asked how he planned to address and correct the issue of our degrading equipment in the near future, the INCUMBENT could NOT answer and simply blamed the situation on past administrations.

Three new vehicles had been purchased with the intent to provide replacement vehicles for certain special assignments, in particular the Investigations and Narcotics Enforcement Units.

At one point three unmarked cars were assigned solely to the use of the INCUMBENT Sheriff while the units they were intended for were forced to share vehicles to ensure they had the proper equipment for their assignments.

The INCUMBENT continues to use one of these vehicles for himself, denying its use to deputies working in the field.

The statement reportedly made by the INCUMBENT that the outcome of the vote was due to deputies not receiving new patrol cars in FALSE!!

The DSA endorsed Pat Garrahan because we believe that Garrahan has the leadership experience necessary to deal with both the issues facing our department and the needs of the community.

We believe that he is the BEST candidate to lead our department forward!"

WE AGREE!! Thank you, deputies for bringing out the truth!!

This is astounding!! It took courage to come out like that! It's time for Sheriff Kuntz and his cronies to go!!

That should be the end of the guy running for office who says he worked for him, too!! Clean house!!

What more can I say, except that this is just the tip of the iceberg where the incumbent is concerned.

Are you kidding me. Of course he singles out deputies who don't cover for his criminal friends. He will get even if he can. Don't vote for anyone who associates with the current Sheriff, unless you want MORE corruption.

Now I understand what the Sentinel has been reporting for over two years now. He lies about everything, even about his deputies.

Maybe that's why my burglary wasn't even investigated. I couldn't even get the deputy to listen to the evidence I presented myself.

There is a fine line between criminal and cop. Many cops can't stay on the right side. Looks like that is what happened here. What about the DA. There is talk that she covers for the sheriff. Is that true?

Maybe I should apologize to a couple of deputies I questioned before. Sounds like corruption at the department comes from the top down.

What's this about the District Attorney?

You don't know? Her husband works for the sheriff as a deputy too. Many have questioned whether she doesn't want to have her husband punished if she goes after Kuntz criminal friends. More than a conflict of interest, so to say.

She seems like a nice lady. No one is running against her.

Do you realize that the Deputies are calling Sheriff Kuntz a liar? They tried to say it in a nice way, but that's what has happened. They Sheriff lied about the deputies and they reported him to the press.

I have to apologize to the SierraSentinel.com. I believed the Sheriff, and it was the Sheriff who lied to me too.

I agree. Kuntz badmouths everyone who criticizes his behavior and now it turns out the the critics were right and telling the truth, including the Sentinel.

If I remember right, Kuntz was elected by liberals with his campaign manager Wilensky, right?

You're right. Holly MInes was involved big time, too. So much for their reputations. Now it has come out that she and Wilensky spent years creating their own planning codes and told their friends they can control everyone's property. Now there is a question of how they weren't honest about that too!

This morning, someone said "where is the deputies loyalty?" and I said "The problem with cops is that there is too much loyalty, even if another cop KILLS someone, they are supposed to cover for them. I don't think that is the right kind of loyalty. I'm proud of our deputies for standing up to corruption."

You are so right about that. Cops cover for other cops wrongdoings all the time. It's just one bad cop covering up for another b ad cop. That's not honorable loyalty. Their loyalty should be to the public they are sworn to protect.

It's about time deputies were LOYAL to the people instead of other bad cops
