Jim was born in Oklahoma and later migrated to California.  He served in the army during the Korean war.

He enjoyed golf, bowling, fishing and mining for gold.  He was also an excellent cook.

In 1990 Jim moved to the foothills near Valley Springs and retired shortly thereafter.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son Steve, stepson Greg Hampel, and brother Lee.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Joan, mother Violet Brooks, sister Brenda (Jim) Novak, sisters-in-law Mary Pipes and Melva Darnell, stepdaughter Sharon (Richard) Siegfried, daughters-in-law Mary Hollingsworth, K.C. Pipes and Kelly Hampel, and very special grandchildren Dennis Pipes, Keri (Joe) Duffy, Joseph Hampel, Jon and Jade Siegfried and a great-grandchild Grace Duffy.
