Manslaughter charge in traffic death

According to CHP on March 28, 2014 around 3:20 PM Virginia Armas (70) of Groveland was traveling eastbound on Hwy 120
east of Old Hwy 120 at 50-55 MPH in a 1999 Chevy Silverado.

Alex Hsu (22) of Sunnyvale was traveling westbound on Hwy 120 east of Old Hwy 120 at a high rate of speed in a 2014 Toyota Camry.

Hsu was passing an unknown vehicle after the end of the broken yellow lines traveling westbound in the eastbound lane approaching a left curve in the roadway.

Armas observed the vehicle in her lane and tried to avoid the collision by applying the brakes of her vehicle.

Hsu observed the Chevy and applied the brakes of the Toyota to avoid the collision.  Due to his driving the Toyota at a high rate of speed and unsafe passing, he was not able to avoid the collision.

Hsu's vehicle traveled towards the south roadway shoulder where the right front of the Toyota collided with the right front of the Chevy.

The collision, according to the report, caused fatal injuries to the Toyota's passenger Kevin Gong (22) , of Stockton, who had to be removed from the vehicle by emergency personnel.

Armas was transported by air ambulance to Memorial Hospital for major injuries. Hsu was transported by air ambulance to Doctors Hospital for major injuries.

Hsu is being charged with alleged vehicular manslaughter for his reckless driving (high speed, unsafe passing). At this time alcohol or drugs appear not to be a factor but is still currently under investigation.
