We received a copy of an email that soon to be ex-Calaveras Supervisor Spellman sent out after the election results ended his gallant political career. And we quote:
"Subject: Smart Growth--Well, well, well Peter, Tonja and Joe.
I hope you are satisfied with your little game you have played now that we are going to have smart growth and community plans up the wazoo.
Kearney/Crane along with Edson and Wright are going to vote for the "greater valley springs community plan" and try to kill the Rancho Special Plan and subject the whole county to "Smart Growth" and "Agenda 21" tactics taking direction from MVS.com and CAP and all the rest.
You thought you would "scare" me by encouraging and financing Roy and he was gullible enough to play right into your game of "let's teach Spellman".
You played the "let's teach Tofanelli" two years ago, how did that work out for you?
Now you have done the same to me but Roy actually got even more votes that Joe did against Tofanelli and there's no chance to make amends for November because I've been eliminated.
You three plus Roy as your puppet just bought all of us in District 5 and even in the whole county a first class ticket to a sustainable smart growth future.

Darren now that ur out of a job you should go ask the guys that offerd you THOUSANDS of dollars for your "special understanding" of how things work at lake tulloch Aka the BRIBE you said you were offerd. We all had great hope for you when you started out as a Supervisor. But in my opinion you made some real bad moves Over and Over again and by 1/2 way threw your term we so ready for you to go by by. It's pretty bad when you want Russ Thomas back. Yes Darren you were that bad!!! Do what Russ Did tuck your tail between your legs and pack your bags and go to Africa for a few months and Mabey people will forget about all the stupid things you said and did.
So should rancho special plan be adopted into the valley springs plan for another layer of protection? Since Spellman was able to build two houses on one lot, it is evident that the special plan is not legally defensible.
Well, we figured the diatribe would be coming. It's ALWAYS someone else's fault. Nothing Darren did could have POSSIBLY made him lose the election.
