The Office of Emergency Services is a California state agency, which is responsible for overseeing and coordinating emergency preparedness and response for and recovery after emergencies.
Each county in the state has a local office
to handle all emergencies within that county. At this time, Calaveras County Office of Emergency Services (Sheriff Gary Kuntz) seems to be in disarray.
Information has not only been late in coming, but inaccurate and we have heard that treatment of scared and displaced residents has been harsh and cold.
The fastest way people should be able to get any information about the Butte Fire is through this department and the Sheriff's Office main number is 209-754-6500. A second number we have been given is 209-754-6552 or Sheriff Kuntz cell phone, which is 209-256-6184.
