Herbert Filben of San Andreas

   Herbert (Herb) Bryant Filben passed away on September 22, 2015 while living at the Avalon Health Care Center in San Andreas.  He was 92.

   Herb was a native Californian, born in Ukiah on August 20, 1923, the son of Otis Bryant Filben and Annette Alice Fowler Filben, and was raised in Potter Valley.

     He was a long time resident of Calaveras County and the owner operator of the Hummingbird Antique store located at the "Barn" in San Andreas.

   He had been buying and selling antiques for almost 50 years and was an expert in antique lamp repair.

   He loved to hunt and fish and even taught some of his grandchildren the love of fishing.

   Herb was a Navy aircraft mechanic, working on PBY Sea Planes during WWII and served all over the Pacific.

   He continued to work on aircrafts and held his private pilot's license for many years before going into the antique business.   He also passed his love of flying on to his son and grandson.

   Herb is survived by his "Love" Coco shear, his son Bruce Filben, his daughter Heidi Brogan, his step-son Edward Botello his daughter-in-law Constance Filben, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
