Oak Fire on Big Hill Road

From the Angels Bypass, Hwy 4
 UPDATE: The two fires have now burned together into one. Power lines are down in the area due to the fire.

  UPDATE:  The Oak Fire on Big Hill Road is now 20%
contained. Helicopters are still being utilized. Residents
are attempting to gather their belongings before evacuating.

   Road closures have been moved out further to Twain Harte.


UPDATE:  One residence and two outbuildings have been lost in this fire so far. Channel 3 has aerial photos of this fire. Their news van is in the area on the ground also, trying to interview Cal Fire.

    It does not look like its under containment.

UPDATE:  Air tankers are now being held back. They have made some progress on this fire.

UPDATE at 3:50 PM:  CHP is assisting with traffic control. No one is allowed on Big Hill Road except emergency vehicles. Traffic is
backed up at the outdoor school where students are trying to get their belongings before evacuating.

UPDATE at 3:30 PM:  The Oak Fire is now estimated to be around 100 acres +. One firefighter has been injured.


   UPDATE at 2:45 PM::  The Oak/Hill Fire is now 80 acres. It is actually 2 separate fires. Air tankers are assisting in battling this fire.


 September 8, 2015 at 2:35 PM:  The fire on Big Hill Road in the Sonora area is near a couple of structures and can be seen by residents in Calaveras County.
 
   This is in the Phoenix Lake area, above Sonora, near Twain Harte. The nearby buildings, including a conference center, have been evacuated.
