OP-ED: De-Forestation of Tree population affects Climate Change & weather-- Less Trees, Less water

"These nasty Redwoods
have GOT TO GO! Do
you know how much water
they retain?" says a Calaveras
Supervisor..
Since the world began being controlled by the deforestation corporations in the world, there are 46% less trees. Could this be part of the cause of Climate Change?

Those same corporations have lobbied to brainwash elected officials that to help solve the drought problems, we should cut even more down, saying "watersheds are bad because they keep water in the mountains".  There are some people who like "DESERTS"!

Even Calaveras Supervisor Cliff Edsel (er, Edson) has been so brainwashed to believe such nonsense.  More trees and natural undergrowth retain more more water, naturally.   Mr. Edson has publicly stated that " if you don't cut down the big cedars and pines, the snow can't get to the ground."

Everyone says "well, he's not very bright!  Look how he's screwed up the Butte Fire. He has stated on video that he was told in the middle of the Butte Fire that he is the "Office of Emergency Services" head.

This has been a debacle from the beginning and he needs to be removed from any responsible position in Calaveras County.  Many are putting all the lost homes on his watch.

Anyway, it is very true and has been verified by 38 scientists recently that there are now 46% less trees in the world.  What are we going to do about it??

Since Mr. Edson is the head of the Office of Emergency Services, is he leading the code enforcement crew out to survey the damage in the county? When disasters struck in the past. The previous appointed head of OES, took code enforcement and surveyed the damages. At least that's what the records say. Plus the previous appointed head gave reports to the bos as an agenda item. Again, according to records. Hmmm, is Mr. Edson going to do that?

Considering most of the county's Board of Stupidvisors, er Supervisors, haven't a clue about the value of and reason for a healthy watershed, Mr. Edson's comments are unsurprising. But if any of them are able to read this, I'd like to help them out a little.

Where snow really, really is important is at and above tree line in our forests. This is called snow-pack and in good years there is a lot of it which, in the spring, melts in a semi orderly fashion into established streams, which run into established rivers (like the Stanislaus), which go into reservoirs which provide our water supply. If you allow the trees below tree line (this is called watershed Mr. Edson),to be cut down in such a manner that allows what is called erosion, those streams are displaced and the water does not go into the rivers. Instead the run off (that's the water running wild down the mountains, now not channeled) creates a moving sludge which undermines the top soil, which slides down the mountain, as it did several years ago after a Pineapple Express, wiping out out part of Hwy 4. The Pineapple Express is the name given for the type of rain we are experiencing now, though this one is not the deluge it could be and has been in the past.

This is the dumbed down, short version, Mr. Edson, and only the most obvious reason to keep a healthy watershed with a variety of trees. The USF, the Parks, and BLM services have, over many decades, been negligent in burning out the underbrush so these types of fires are less likely to happen. Perhaps Mr. Edson you could designate an intelligent person to talk to the Federal Government about their skewed idea of budgeting for healthy surviving forests. This and other wild fires in national forests just in California must be costing much more than a sensible budget would to help prevent them.

The way I see it, Mr. Edson is un uneducated overbloated individual who wants to look important.
Mr. Edson: You will have to cut down EVERY single tree in Calaveras to prevent fire, as we watched in the videos.
With only one tree near mile wide green pasture, this fire floated fiery embers to the nearest tree, over a mile away.
You simply don't get it, mr. Supervisor and should not be in ANY position of power, in my opinion.

Edson has announced his re-election ambition. How do people feel, now that Edson & Kearney have decided that a mitigated negative declaration (legal contract) means 3 million dollars of nothing? A gift of gratitude to a wily developer, who it appears he wants to unload his Calaveras County burden of inventory with the help of Kearney and Edson. By the way, why wasn't teleconferencing used as allowed by Government Code Section 54953 (2),(3) and (4) of the Brown Act? Where was the District 3 Supervisor beside conveniently missing? Is this a conniving, corrupt, threesome? It certainly appears that way.
