Per CHP on June 4, 2017 around 1:50 PM Dirk Hawley (56) of Valley Springs was riding his Suzuki motorcycle on Hwy 26 near Beal Ranch Road near Paloma, behind a slower
moving vehicle.
As they reached a passing area, Hawley began to pas the vehicle. However, he did not allow for sufficient passing room and to avoid an approaching vehicle Hawley veered to the left, subsequently running off the roadway.
Hawley lost control once reaching the north shoulder and both he and the motorcycle impacted the ground. He was taken to Mark Twain Hospital with major injuries.
According to CHP alcohol/drugs were not a factor in this collision.
