Study Says California Sea Level to Rise 5 Feet

In a study released by the National Research Council, it is reported that sea levels along the California coast are expected to rise up to 1 foot in 20 years, 2 feet by 2050 and as much as 5 1/2 feet by the end of the century.

According to the group of scientists who conducted the study, this will increase the risk of flooding and storm damage.  Part of the reason is that they say California is sinking, and that extends the reach of a sea that is warming and expanding due to climate change.
Tide gauges show that the sea levels have risen about 7 inches in the last century, and that the rate is accelerating.  Some laugh it off and say that now we could have oceanfront property.  Others take it very seriously, and say we should prepare for the worst.
