Hwy 49 Blocked by Big Rig and Modular Home Fall

 UPDATE:  Hwy 49 was finally re-opened at 1:30 PM. The truck driver was Vernon Chenoweth of Parachute, Colorado. He was properly permitted to pull the modular, per CHP.

    CHP has continued the SigAlert closure of Hwy 49 another hour, past the 12:30 PM August 9, 2012, expected re-opening. There are reports that some vehicles are taking MIddle Bar Road to get around the closure, speeding, etc.
UPDATE: Due to this accident, Hwy 49 is closed from the Amador County line to Mokelumne Hill as of   11:30 AM on Thursday, August 9, 2012 until cleared. A Sig-Alert was issued by CHP.
    A report to the CHP  at 9:37 AM  on August 9, 2012, that traffic is blocked up in both the north and southbound lanes on Hwy 26 and 49 intersection of the thirteen curves area in San Andreas, and that a big rig is blocking the road there.
   Also reported that a vehicle may be on its side in the area.
   Two CHP units have now assessed the situation. A modular home came off of its trailer and went partially down an embankment. It will be some time before the area is cleared. Avoid the area if possible.
