Lightning Starts Fires in Sequoia National Forest

   UPDATE:  As of Sunday August 5, 2012 a total of 9 fires are  attributied to what authorities believe are lightning strikes. There is 0% containment. The fires are located quite a way from the nearest town of Lake Isabella in steep terrain in the Sequoia National Forest.

  A fire that is believed to have been started by lightning overnight August 3-4, 2012, has now grown to 500 acres, as of 6 PM on August 4, 2012.

    The Clear  fire got a headstart on firefighters as it was not reported until noon August 4, 2012.

   Another fire believed to be lightning started overnight in the Sequoia National Forest is the Heald fire. This one is estimated at 250 acres and is in a very steep remote area of the park.
