Battery on Sonora policeman in Catholic Church

On March 4, 2014 at around 10 AM a Sonora Police officer responded to St. Patricks Catholic Church on Jackson Street in Sonora for a report of an attempted theft of a woman's purse.

The officer recognized the man as Jeremy King, with a history of arrests and currently on parole. As the officer tried to grab Kings wrists, King began threatening and finally attacked the officer.

After a wrestling match ensued inside the church, during which King reportedly attempted to get two officers service weapons, it took 4 officers to subdue King, who was arrested.

King was booked into Tuolumne County Jail for alleged felony assault on a Police Officer, felony causing injury to a Police Officer while resisting arrest, felony attempting to remove a Police Officers firearm, felony attempted theft, felony parole violation and misdemeanor being Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance.
