Letter to the Editor....About the trapper

   Dear Editor:

   My husband and I were just going to make a comment on your article about getting rid of the Trapper,

Supervisor Ponte (rancher) doesn't want to eliminate trapper?

   Does Supervisor Ponte's ranching family not want her to vote to eliminate the trapper that our tax money pays for.  We need to eliminate this waste of our tax money to help cattle ranchers.

   This money goes to pay a person who likes to hunt and kill animals an annual wage to enjoy his favorite hobby, in our opinion.

Calaveras Supervisor Callaway says don't spend, but recommends more spending

   Supervisor Callaway always talks the talk about not spending, but then outside the back of her mouth comes a $4,000,000 cost just to buy software for her favorite clerks who support her re-election campaigns.

   Do you see anything like that. We hear that her Halloween Church is already actively campaigning for her next election. Are you ready for them?

Public Works loses $300,000 to the Sheriff's Office

   Calaveras Supervisor Chris Wright recommended that $350,000 be moved to Sheriff's office

Take money out of Meals on Wheels?

   Calaveras Supervisors Budget: Supervisor Ponte recommended taking money out of Meals on Wheels during budget approval, but Chris Wright disagreed, saying that seniors depend on Meals on Wheels.  We agree with him.

Traffic Accident on Hwy 88

   June 30, 2013:  At 11:48 AM a traffic accident requiring an ambulance was reported to CHP on Hwy 88 at Cooks Station in Amador County.

Traffic Accident on Hwy 4 above Arnold

  June 30, 2013:  a traffic accient was reported to CHP at 10:45 AM on Hwy 4 at Big Trees Parkway above Arnold.

   No injuries have been reported. CHP is enroute to the scene.

Three Children struck by lightning

   When lightning struct a field at an Indianapolis summer camp, three children were injured. One is in critical condition.

Fire in Monterey County

    June 30, 2013:  The Freeman Fire in Monterey County was located off Hwy 198, 10 miles east of King City, started at around 2:30 PM yesterday, burned 105 acres before it was contained by CalFire.

Arrest for Hit and Run

    On June 27, 2013 Connie Ann Day (55)  of Valley Springs was arrested on Mountain Ranch Rd  for alleged Hit and Run causing death or injury, a felony and Vehicular Manslaughter, a Misdemeanor.

   Day was booked into the Calaveras County Jail by Calaveras Sheriff's Deputies.

Roswell, New Mexico plant to slaughter horses

   The USDA gave its approval to the Valley Meat Company in Roswell, New Mexico to slaughter horses for meat this week.

   Only aliens would eat horses, anyway, right?

Patriots cut off Aaron Hernandez totally

   In addition to cutting ties with Aaron Hernandez as far as being a player for the Patriots, the front office has announced they will not be paying one more penny of the guaranteed money in his contract; not willingly at least.

   The Patriots are even willing to take back in trade any jerseys fans bought in anticipation of Hernandez playing for the NFL since he was charged with murder.

Bruce Jenner's two daughters

   Bruce Jenner's two daughters, Kendall, 17, and Kylie 15, have set up house at Malibu for the summer.

Fire in San Bernardino County

   CalFire is still battling a fire in San Bernardino county south of Hwy 38 and Bryant Street. It was reported on Friday, June 28, 2013 at 2:30 PM.

.  Called the Mills Fire, as of today it is 350 acres and is 20% contained. They hope to have it fully contained by Sunday, June 30, 2013.

  George Zimmerman trial:  You have to give the feisty teenager Rachel Jeantel, credit. She got feisty with the defense attorney when he would try to put words in her mouth, or questioned her honesty.

Major Incident in Ebbetts Pass

   UPDATE: According to Christopher Hewitt of the Sheriff's Office the incident involved a possible suicidal subject.

   We began getting calls about a possible accident on Hwy 4 above Arnold at 3 PM. It was not a traffic accident, but much of law enforcement is involved.

  We will update you when we hear more.

Zimmerman was taking Mixed Martial Arts?

  Zimmerman was taking Mixed Martial Arts three times a week, and three hours a day, according to his doctor, for his obesity.

  The court was recessed until Monday morning, July 1, 2013.

Zimmerman's Doctor sent him to Psychologist

   The doctor who treated Zimmerman the next day sent him to a psychologist. He was seeing one already, and she wanted him to continue.

Zimmerman had a goatee and mustache

   A close-up photo of Zimmerman's head shows that at the time of the shooting, he had a goatee and a mustache.

   The defense is showing photo after photo of poor Mr. Zimmerman. The witness gets it. He's trying to get a different diagnosis but she is not continuing to play the game, even saying it could be the misshape of the skull, itself.

Cross examination of Medical Clinic employee

    June 28, 2013: In the Zimmerman trial, the defense is overdoing it, trying to make the jury feel sorry for the defendant and forgetting about the real victim. I think I'm going to be sick.

     He's asking the clinician to imagine all kinds of horrible head conditions and hematomas and brain damage. Oh, brother!

Arguments to the Judge

The judge excused the jury while the attorneys argue about whether Zimmerman's medical records could be testified to in court. The defense says no and the state says yes.

   The defense wants only the treatment for injuries to his head the night of the shooting to be open to the court and nothing else. What is he hiding?

Officer Smith testifies--Zimmerman trial

The first officer of Sanford Police to respond was questioned over and over again by the defense about how terrible the wounds on Mr. Zimmerman's head were and didn't anyone offer to help him. Are they trying to say that Zimmerman's wounds were worse than Martin's?

EMT tech called to stand for state

      June 28, 2013:   Mr. Zimmerman did not choose to receive care from the ambulance or taken to the hospital, according to the ambulance tech.

    He had said no, that he would get help at the Police Department.  She said she did not hear him say he was dizzy, nor did she see him handcuffed or helped out of the police car.

    Officer Ayala was in charge of investigations at the time of the shooting.  "Suspicious person"

Redirect of Mamalo-neighbor

  The state asked about Mr. Zimmerman's demeanor, and he said he was coherent and calm. Did you see the shooting, as the defense has indicated? Mamalo said "NO! I came out after the shot. "

   This was a very good witness. He didn't waiver, and there were no inconsistencies in his words.

No attempt to help Martin until officer arrived

 Mamalo continued to be cross-examined. Is it true that no one attempted to  revive or help Trayvon Martin until a policeman arrived?

   He was asked about what he thought Neighborhood Watch was?  He said he felt they were just there to call 911 or remind residents to call 911 if a problem occurs, not to take the law into their own hands.

   June 28, 2013 at 1 PM est:  They just showed George Zimmerman returning to the courthouse and he started complaining, first to the attorney on his left and then to the attorney on his right about something. What?

A note from Congressman Ami Bera

    Ami Bera sent a note for everyone. It says:  "I can't tell you how pleased I was with the Supreme Court's ruling on DOMA and Prop 8.

Angels Camp City Council meets

   The Angels Camp City Council will meet next Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at the Bret Harte High School Theater. The regular meeting begins at 6 PM after two closed sessions about litigation and labor negotiations.

   On the regular agenda is a resolution that they plan to RAISE the Greenhorn Lighting District fees. That should be fun!

Zoo rangers have to count bear noses

   A Knoxville, Tennessee zoo ranger had to county noses there, after a black bear had reportedly broken INTO the zoo from a nearby park.

   It was the first bear that they had ever seen break INTO the zoo. He left the same way he came, climbing over a fence.

Monsignor at Vatican arrested

   A monsignor who had been suspended from his job as an accountant at the Vatican has been arrested for alleged fraud, corruption and slander, according to a papal spokesman.

Colorado shooter suspect chained to floor

   The alleged shooter at the Aurora Colorado theater will wear a harness that is chained to the floor during his trial, authorities say.

Mr. Good is questioned about lying at first

   June 28, 2013:  After the defense questioned the neighbor, Mr. Good, who happens to be white, the redirect of the state asked if he was now lying or if he had lied in the beginning when he was questioned by authorities.

   He stated that a particular question had not been asked.  Now the defense is showing him his statement as written the night of the shooting. And another sidebar with the judge.

Texas Celebrates 500th execution

  Sine the death penalty was reinstated in Texas in 1982, Texas passed a grim milestone. executing its 500 inmate.

CalFire issues Zero Tolerance--Fireworks

      CalFire has released a press release stating that they will have a zero tolerance for illegal fireworks in California with the approaching 4th of July holiday.

   They say that every year CalFire responds to hundreds of fireworks-related fires that result in millions of dollars in damage, according to State Fire Marshal Tonya Hoover.

   The US Forest Service is asking campers not to bring wood from home into the forest, as it could have insects that can destroy our trees.

   June 26, 2013 at 11:35 AM:  We just spoke with a person who passed by just after a fatal motorcycle accident occurred on Hwy 49 at near the old airport in San Andreas.

   At the time he passed, passersby were attempting to revive the man with CPR. CHP arrived and declared the man a fatal accident victim.  Use extra caution in that area.

Marc Rich has Died in Switzerland

   If you don't remember who Marc Rich is, think back to President Clinton's last day in office as President. He issued a last minute pardon to Rich, who owned Mar Rich and Co with Pincus "Pinky" Green.

   Rich had been convicted of tax evasion and fraud. The pardon was extremely controversial. He was 78 years old when he died.

Police Sergeant Anthony Raymondo testifies

  George Zimmerman trial on June 25, 2013: A Sanford Police Department employee, Sergeant Anthony Raymondo, a 14 year veteran, was asked if he was the patrol person who responded to a call at Twin Lakes complex on February 26, 2012.

   He testified that the body was on its face with the arms underneath. The Sergeant covered the body and helped the other officer. He testified that it was raining lightly and that he found a cold can inside his pocket.

  

Rollover Accident near Camanche

   June 25, 2013:  At 10 AM CHP is at the scene of a rollover traffic accident that occurred on Buena Vista Rd at Camanche Parkway North on the Amador County side.

   An ambulance is transporting one person to the hospital with what is believed to be minor injuries. Use extra caution in that area.

   June 25, 2013:  The state first thing this morning introduced 5 more tape recordings into evidence of calls Zimmerman had made to police.

   The defense immediately objected, and sought to have them ruled inadmissible. When they played the tapes, we think the state is trying to show that he often suspected black teens as criminals just for being in the neighborhood walking.

   The judge will make her ruling on the admissibility of these tapes tomorrow.

    The Angels Camp City Council appointed two new Planning Commissioners at their last meeting. If you get a chance to watch the video it is very telling.
   
   Jack Lynch was the only one who voted to keep the same old commissioners and voted NAY all by himself.

Suspicious person in dumpster at Ebbetts Pass Hardware

   On June 22, 2013 a caller reported a blonde male going through the dumpster at Ebbetts Pass Hardware on Blagen Rd in Arnold, and talking to himself.
  

Suspicious Remains Found above Murphys

   On June 22, 2013 the Sheriff's Office received a report that suspicious remains were found. A deputy determined that they were animal on Northwood Dr above Murphys.

Intoxicated Person on Horseshoe in Hathaway Pines

   The Calaveras Sheriff's Office was called about an intoxicated person causing a disturbance on Horseshoe Drive in Hathaway Pines on June 22, 2013.

   No arrest was made or citation issued.  We think we know that filthy racist drunk who lives in that subdivision! He should be locked up and the key melted down.

Theft at Town Square in Copperoplis

   A theft of jewelry was reported to the Sheriff from a store at Town Square in Copperopolis on June 22, 2013.

   It is not know if there is a suspect at this time.

Gary Caldwell is right about Wildlife killings

During the budget hearings, Gary Caldwell spoke up about the $60,000 we spend to have wild animals killed by Fish and Wildlife in Calaveras County. He feels that every time someone complains about any wild animal, several will be killed indiscriminately. Caldwell also feels that ranchers should protect their own livestock, not the taxpayers. Good for you Gary. You are right!!

Fox complaint in Angels Camp

   June 22, 2013:  A resident on Live Oak complained to the Sheriff that a fox chased a dog up onto their deck. The resident wants the den nearby to be removed by ag department.
     
     Does that mean they will kill all the little foxes? When you call and complain, another murder takes place.

      In a written ruling, the judge in the George Zimmerman murder case has ruled that expert testimony in the voice analysis will be barred from the courtroom.

James Gandolfini dies

  When once asked what he would say when greeted at the gates of heaven, James Gandolfini replied "Take over, will you. I'll be right back."

   He died yesterday while on a trip in Italy. He was 51 years old and died of cardiac arrest. He was scheduled to begin a new series on HBO this fall.

   Known best for his starring role as Tony Soprano in the HBO series Soprano's, he was raised speaking Italian in New Jersey and was perfect for the role.

   He leaves a 13 year old son from his first wife and a 10 month old daughter from his 2nd wife.

George Zimmer gets fired

   The Men's Wearhouse spokesman and executive chairman for many years, George Zimmer, was fired, and shares in the company took a dive today.

   He was famous for saying "You're going to like the way you look. I guarantee it" in their commercials.  Zimmer founded the company 40 years ago. No reason was given for the termination/

Gruesome stabbing and mutilation in Redding, Father and Son

   Authorities in Redding are investigating an apparent stabbing after finding a Father and Son bleeding in the driveway of their home.

   The sons hands were reportedly lying alongside him in the driveway, cut off with a radial saw.

   June 18, 2013 at 7 AM:  The Fire in Mariposa County off Carstens road east of Hwy 140 in the Midpines area is now 1600 acres and only 15% contained.

   Nearly 800 residences are threatened and evacuations are in place for Hites Cove, Jerseydale, Clarks Valley, Triangle Rd and Scott Rd. in addition to Lush Meadows, East West Fall Road at Triangle Rd to Triangle Park Drive, Darrah Rd to North Valley View.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. 2237 fire personnel are now assigned along with 143 engines, 21 dozers and 4 water tenders.

    The Carstens Fire in the Sierra National Forest in Mariposa County, has grown to 900 acres and is only 15% contained. 150 residences are currently threatened.

   We just spoke with someone in Ebbetts Pass who said that their husband has been sent to that fire. The cause is not yet know.

Word of the Day......or actually two " Hot Dog"

   What is the official meaning of a Hot Dog.    Some vendors buy raw hot dogs such as bratwurst. They have to have a stricter health food standard than a standard cooked hot dog that is just reheated.

200 gun dealers in Sacramento area

   There are a growing number of gun dealers in the Sacramento area, around 200 and counting.

   In 2012 a total of 74,000 firearms were sold at these stores. That is roughly 20,000 more than in 2011.

   June 14, 2013 @  6 AM:  The Royal Gorge Fire in Fremont County, Colorado is now 65% contained at 3218 acres, as they begin to get hold of the spread of the fire.

   Some residents have been allowed to return to their homes.

Hathaway Fire in San Berardino County still growing

   June 14, 2013 at 7 PM:  The Hathaway Fire in San Berardino County is now 45% contained but has grown to 3596 acres in heavy chaparral and timber which has been impacted by draought and bug kill.

   This is in a steep and remote area which is difficult to access.

   Two cities in Callifornia made the top ten list for the most violent crime, according to the FBI.

   Oakland was number three in the nation and Stockton was number 6. Not something to be pround of.  Of course, poverty and high unemployment are considered the major causes.

PFE Fire in Placer County

   A fire that started on June 13, 2013 around 11:28 AM burned 237 acres at PFI Road and Watt Avenue in West Roseville. Fortunately, it was 100% contained at 2:15 PM.

Fire on Jackson Valley Rd in Ione

   At around 7:30 PM a fire was reported near Jackson Valley Road and Buena Vista Rd in Ione. We'll give more information as we receive it.

Colorado wildfires still raging

   With the Black Forest Fire in Colorado now at 18,000 acres and only 5 % contained, officials say this is the worst fire in Colorado history. 

   Two people are now confirmed to have died in the fire. Evacuations are some 93,000 acres, affecting nearly 38,000 people. Some have been lucky to get out with only their animals with them.

   The Black Forest fire near Colorado Springs remains at 0% contained today, June 13, 2013. More than 360 homes have been destroyed as of 11:25 AM.

Vehicle Fire at Sierra Pacific Industries

   CalFire responded to a loader on fire which was moving wood chips at the Sierra Pacific Industries mill in Chinese Camp on June 12, 2013.

   The cause was not known, but the damage to the loader was $20,000.
  

Royal Gorge Fire in Colorado

   We received a message that the wildlife at the Royal Gorge are being fed and watered by the State Veterinarian.   Livestock have been evacuated to another area.

   As of 9:30 AM June 13, 2013 the Royal Gorge Fire has destroyed 3,162 acres and is 20%

Roadrunner Fire in Amador County

  A fire in Amador County, called the Roadrunner Fire, that was reported at around 4:45 PM on June 12, 2013 was declared 100% contained at 9:45 AM June 13, 2013.

  This fire was on Roadrunner Drive, south of Ione and burned 96 acreas altogether. The cause of the fire is not available at this time.
  
  

All Burning is suspended due to fire danger

   CalFire is reminding everyone that all burning is suspended due to the fire danger in Northern California.

Vegetation Fire in West Point

   On June 12, 2013 at around 6 AM CalFire responded to an escaped debris burn on the 100 Block of Snead Rd in West Point.

   1/2 acre of grass and vegetation burned before it was extinguished.

Escape Debris burn in Mountain Ranch

   CalFire responded to an escaped debris burn in Mountain Ranch on June 12, 2013 at around 8 PM on 10000 Sheep Ranch Road.

   About 1 1/2 acres of grass and brush were burned before it was extinguished. The estimated dollar value was $300.  Fire personnel remained at the scene until after midnight.

  

Fire in Madera County somewhat contained

    June 13, 2013 at 7:15 AM:  CalFire reports that the fire named the Revis Fire in Madera County that was reported on June 12, 2013 about 4:45 PM has now stopped spreading forward.

   Officially listed with 100 acres burned and 60% containment, this one is located off Revis Road and YOsemite Springs Parkway in the Yosemite Lake Parks area in Coarsegold.

Frog Hollow's Truck was located by the Ukiah office of the CHP

   June 12, 2013:  One suspect is in custody after the Ukiah CHP located the missing Frog Hollow truck, stolen on June 10, 2013. No other details are available at this time.

 

Grass Fire at Camanche

  June 12, 2013:   At 5:20 P we  received information that CalFire is battling a grass fire of about 3 acres on the Amador County side of Camanche Reservoir.

Royal Gorge Fire in Colorado 0% contained

   While there are several fires burning in Colorado at this time, the Royal Gorge fire is considered 0% contained and is 3800 acres as of noon today, June 12, 2013. Evacuations are in effect in entire area.

   The cause is still under investigation. No injuries have been reported.  We spoke to a resident in Denver. They said it feels like all of Colorado is burning.  They had the same problem last year. Californians know how they feel.

Hathaway Fire in San Bernardino National Forest

  We got an update on the Hathaway Fire in the San Bernardino National Forest at 2:55 PM. So far the fire has burned 2,850 acres and is 30% contained.

Fire on Hwy 41 at Yosemite Springs Rd

   A fire was reported at 2:55 PM at Hwy 41 and Yosemite Springs Parkway in Madera County. CalFire is enroute to that location.

Mayor Eric Garcetti Will Remember the Unions

  Eric Garcetti is the newly elected mayor of Los Angeles. One of the first things he needs to do is lead contract negotiations with unions of more than 29,000 city employees.

Calaveras County vandalism reports June 10, 2013

    Vandalism to a canoe on Chamonix Drive was reported. It was spray painted--apparently the wrong color. No report was taken by the Sheriff.

   Vanalism was reported to the Sheriff by a resident on Barney Way at Hwy 25 in West Point that someone is stripping off wood from a house.  No report was taken by the Sheriff.

Jackson Woman Arrested in Valley Springs

    Shelly Marie Strickland (29) of Jackson, was arrested at Pine and Lime Creek Rd in Valley Springs for alleged Burglary in the 1st Degree, a felony, Possession of marijuana, an infraction and Possession of a hypodermic needle, a misdemeanor.

    Strickland was booked into the Calaveras County Jail by a Sheriff's deputy.

San Andreas Man Arrested for Burglary

   On June 10, 2013 Wyitt Harrison Carroll (34) of San Andreas was arrested at the Zippy Mart  in Valley Springs for alleged 1st degree Burglary, a felony and other outstanding warrants.

    Carroll was booked into the Calaveras County Jail by Calaveras Sheriff's deputies.

Nearly 6000 dry lightning strikes in Northern Californa

   Over 50 small fires were recorded in the 24 hours of lightning activity in Northern California, CalFire reports as of 11 AM.

   Most of the fires were easily extinguished, crews continue to respond to all reported fires from the strikes. CalFire says that they continue to investigate each fire to rule out all other possible causes.

Sony announces PlayStation 4

   In time to hit the shelves for Christmas, Sony has announced its next-generation PlayStation 4 video game console.

   It was made public at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in LA.  The cost will be $399 each.

Europe Questions US's tracking all communications

   Now that Eric Snowden made public the fact that the US is tracking phone and internet messages around the world, the European Parliament has decided to discuss the spy programs.

   They want to know if the US has violated any privacy protections of the EU. US diplomats are being questioned in Brussels about the now public policy.

China lauches 5th space mission

Contract Security company makes BILLIONs off US taxpayers

   Edward Snowden, who admitted leaking how the US government is using surveillance to watche Americans, worked for a company named Booz Allen Hamilton, which does BILLIONS of dollars in business for the NSA and other agencies of the US government.

   It was reported yesterday that there are nearly 1,000,000 contract workers like Snowden, who had no high school diploma  and yet made over $200,000 a year.  Do you see anything wrong here.

  Many people are questioning if the problem is with Snowden, or if it is with our own government.

   Snowden has disappeared and the US government wants him. They do not like whistleblowers!!

American Falls from high wall in Rome and dies

   A 21-year-old American has died after falling 50 feet from a wall near a university in Rome, after losing his balance. He died on impact with the sidewalk near the banks of the River Tiber.

    This is the third accident of its kind in that area in five years, according to police.

Structure Fire in Tuolumne County

   CalFire reports that they responded to a structure fire that extended into nearly vegetation on June 9, 2013 at around 12:30 AM in the 11000 Block of Black Road in Big Oak Flat in Tuolumne County.

   The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage to the structure was estimated at around $30,000.
